Dr. Fernando T. Aldaba has played a pivotal role as the faculty-in-charge of the Economic Applications in the Public Sector module for multiple cohorts of the Public Management Development Program (PMDP) Middle Managers Class. In this role, he imparts his extensive expertise and insights, molding the next generation of public sector leaders.
A seasoned academic, Dr. Aldaba has been a Professor of Economics at Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) since 1996. He also served as a Senior Fellow for Eagle Watch, ADMU’s macroeconomic forecasting unit within the Economics Department. In 2003, he took on the role of Chairperson of the Economics Department for six years and later became the Dean of School of Social Sciences, a position he held from 2015 to 2021.
Dr. Aldaba’s areas of specialization include macroeconomics, development economics, and labor economics. His current research focuses on social protection, economic growth, poverty, social capital, and labor migration in the Philippines and ASEAN. Beyond his academic roles, he has held significant positions in professional organizations, serving as the President of the Philippine Economic Society and Vice President of the East Asia Economic Association.
Dr. Aldaba’s academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science in Management Engineering from Ateneo de Manila University in 1980. He went on to earn his Doctorate in Economics from the University of the Philippines – Diliman in 1996.
Throughout his career, Dr. Aldaba has made substantial contributions to economic education and research, shaping policy and influencing the next generation of economists and public sector leaders.
