Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia â€“ From September 23-27, 2024, Senior Executives Class Batch 13 of the Development Academy of the Philippines Public Management Development Program undertook a Foreign Study Mission, immersing themselves in a series of site visits, discussions, and interactive sessions as part of their International Governance and Policy Innovations module.

The mission was in partnership with the Malaysia Productivity Corporation, the Academy’s National Productivity Organization counterpart in Malaysia.
On September 24, the delegates had a courtesy call with Ambassador Maria Angela Ponce at the Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur. They were provided with an overview of the embassy’s work in Malaysia and explored areas of cooperation between Philippines and Malaysia, as well as preparedness for future regional challenges.

During the five-day mission, the delegates visited key institutions such as Kuala Lumpur City Hall, Talent Corporation Malaysia, Ministry of National Unity, SIRIM Manufacture Centre, Melaka State Economic Planning Unit and explored Malaysia’s successful initiatives in digital transformation and public service reform, and governance innovations, gaining valuable lessons to adapt to the Philippine context.

At the SIRIM Manufacture Centre, the scholars learned about Malaysia’s Industry 4.0 transformation. The Centre showcases cutting-edge technologies like automation, 3D printing, and reverse engineering to drive industrial innovation.
The group also had the opportunity to explore Melaka’s rich cultural heritage, further enriching their understanding of Malaysia’s socio-political and economic landscape.

The mission concluded with a closing ceremony held at Hotel Capri by Fraser Bukit Bintang where each participant was awarded a Certificate of Completion.

Dr. Mazrina Mohamed Ibramsah, Deputy Director General of the Malaysia Productivity Corporation, awarded the certificates in behalf of MPC Director General Zahid Ismail

The foreign study mission not only broadened participants’ perspectives on governance and policy innovations but also highlighted Malaysia’s successful transformation journey, offering practical lessons for the Philippines’ own governance challenges.
